Giving a crowdfunding platform a competitive edge
About the company
Spotfund Technologies Inc. is a fundraising platform founded in 2016 with strong principles: Free. Trusted. Fast. Spotfund crossed the halfway mark to $1BN in total dollars donated—an American success story built with small dollar investments from friends and family, trusted by users to process their valuable donations with best in class technology and to always safely deliver funds the next business day.
Spotfund needed experts with deep React and Python/Django knowledge to improve their fast-growing platform.
They participate in our sprints. Once a week, we define what they’re going to work on in the upcoming week. They create code and engineer our platform, shipping the code in a way that helps us stay competitive in our market.
The solution
We provide nearshore tech talent to develop Spotfund’s platform using React for the front-end and Python, Django, Postgres, Redis and Celery for the back-end.
We worked on improving the backend and apps, making financial transactions processing easier for users, and enabling payment through Google Pay & Apple Pay. We also automated payment processes & made integrations with Stripe and banking institutions to ensure campaign owners receive donations on the next business day.
For the frontend, we refreshed the platform layout, refactored legacy code, and added new key features. To enhance platform reliability, we streamlined QA and deployment processes and integrated error tracking tools like Rollbar and Microsoft Clarity.
Tech-stacks: ReactJS, Python, Django, Rux, Redux-Saga, Formik, React-Slick, TinyMCE, RollBar, Microsoft Clarity, PostgreSQL, Git, GitLab, Heroku.
As the CTO of our company, I’m responsible for making sure our code is of high quality — Nextly is perfect on that. From a cost perspective, their services are less expensive than if we use a US-based team. While it’s hard to put how much we save in numbers, I can say that they’re half the cost of a full-time US-based developer with the same level of quality and quantity.
Highlights and outcomes
White-label feature for Miss America’s 2025 fundraising campaigns
Our development team worked hard to implement key features for Spotfund’s B2B partners, such as giving them a white-label experience to customize labels, logos, and avatars for a fully branded solution. Some partners, like Miss America and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), had their campaign creation flows customized for specific needs, like adding a Contestant’s State and Contestant Title field for the beauty pageant, or a college CEO’s Letter of Support field for the AACC.
Finally, we introduced a profit-sharing option, enabling fundraisers to split donations among multiple nonprofit organizations, with customizable percentages for each. These updates give our partners more control and flexibility over their campaigns.
