Enertiv is a fast-growing startup based in NYC since 2011, trusted by top commercial real estate (CRE) owners, operators, and private equity firms. They were driven by the realization that building energy costs were too high and information too limited. They aim to bring efficiency and transparency to building operations.
Enertiv offers a fully managed platform that handles energy benchmarking, tenant billing, preventive maintenance, real-time equipment monitoring, energy savings, and capex forecasting for over 500 properties.

The solution
Enertiv needed a Sr. Lead Data Scientist with great English-speaking and communication skills as it is a very user facing role. They had several dozen candidates they were reviewing but were unable to find someone after numerous interviews, thus they decided to give 99x a shot at helping them fill such an important role.
We presented two candidates who outperformed all others, both in cultural interviews with their Head of Talent as well as in the coding tests & technical interviews with their VP of Engineering.
Our talents stood out because Enertiv's ideal data scientist needed great technical skills but also because we managed to find an expert with an mechatronics/electrical engineering background who knew how buildings and their equipment work.
Their CEO had established they could only hire A-Players in 2023 and were unsure whether a non-US based data science resource would be effective for team collaboration. However, given how well our talent performed, Enertiv decided to move forward with us.

Automated Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs)
We have automated the diagnosis of various types of energy usage issues in commercial, residential, and industrial buildings. We identify opportunities such as scheduling equipment on/off operations and preventing unnecessary heating or cooling of the building, among others.
By following our recommendations, Enertiv clients have achieved millions of dollars in energy savings, resulting in a significant reduction of carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
Automated Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD)
The software pre-calculates statistics that summarize the normal operation of the equipment. When behavior changes, we diagnose potential causes and alert the client to resolve the issue. We can detect various situations such as spikes in operation, equipment turning on/off when it normally wouldn't, leaks in water and gas lines, and overheating/overcooling of spaces using air conditioning units, among others.
Thousands of alerts are generated each month, becoming an integral part of the maintenance systems for Enertiv clients.
