“Tough times don't last, tough people do”

It’s important to keep things in perspective and stay strong during these difficult times.

Dear all,

Hope you are coping during these troubled times.

It’s important to keep things in perspective and stay strong during these difficult times. I was troubled to hear that a German state minister for finance had taken his own life.

While we cannot ignore all that’s happening around us, it’s important we stay strong and focus on what we can influence and care for at this time.

We lead complex lives and I would like to share six things (in no specific order) to consider and apply during the days ahead. These are things we must make time for and do intentionally.

  • Your spiritual beliefs: It’s important that you use this time to grow in your spiritual beliefs or faith. Use this as a time of reflection where you will find more meaning and purpose in life.
  • Your health/fitness: Look after yourself mentally, eat wisely and stay fit. Exercise using whatever means you have available to you. If it’s jogging in a private lane or using your apartment stairs as a stepper, or an online stretching routine, make time and do it.
  • Your family: Look after your immediate and extended family. Be a responsible parent, son or daughter and respond with understanding and patience. For those with aging parents, attend to their concerns and well-being. Speak to them and reassure them regularly. Use this time to impart valuable life-lessons to your children.
  • Your skills/hobbies: You can also use this time to develop and refresh yourself. Whether it’s learning a new skill, focusing on a hobby or even reading a book you’ve never got to, use this time productively.
  • Your future: You may be aware that the economic impact of this pandemic is greater than anything we’ve encountered before. We must brace ourselves for hard times and it may be 6-12 months before we see things settle. I would request that you take this time to analyze your financial consumption and where you can adjust in the future.
  • Your community: Be a responsible leader in your community. This includes caring for your neighbor and sharing your resources with those in need, being obedient to government/local authorities and being responsible with information at your disposal. Don’t share information that you’re unable to verify or forward malicious content. Stay home and be accountable in case you develop symptoms.

I’m sharing this along with my deep concern for each of you. If you’re facing a situation which is becoming a crisis and need support, please reach out.

“Tough times don't last, tough people do.”

All the best and stay safe.
